Stop 7 – The 1884 Hand-Drawn Hose Cart

This hand-drawn hose cart worked alongside the eighteen eighty-four Button steam fire engine. Besides the hose, it carried nozzles and axes.

The rubber hose you see here is the same kind first used with the city's eighteen sixty-eight steam engine. Fabric-covered, rubber-lined hose didn't come along until the late eighteen hundreds.
