Stop 11 – 1884 Button Steam-Powered Fire Engine

1884 Button Steam-Powered Fire Engine
00:00 / 00:25

Here it is: the eighteen eighty-four Button steam fire engine itself.

The city paid twenty-eight hundred dollars for it, from the Button Fire Engine Company of Waterford, New York. It could pump four hundred gallons a minute, and throw a stream of water more than two hundred forty feet through a hundred feet of hose.

This engine served the Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Department for forty-two years before it was retired in nineteen twenty-six.
